Short visit visa

My wife and I will be tourists in Hong Kong for 4 days in Feb 2015. Then we start a 20 day cruise, returning for just a few hours before flying home. From what I read, it appears it is required, but I wanted to be sure. Thank you.

You will only visit HK, but do not land in any city of China mainland?
If so, you do not need it, since you enjoys a 90-day free entry policy to visit HK.
