About:Takla Makan Desert
why do they call it the taklamakan desert?

In Uygur language, "Tak" refers to "moutains". "Lamakan" refers to "endless desert", with the extended meaning of "vast". Taklamakan means vast desert at the foot of the mountains. So it is so named.
