About:Apply for China Visa in a Third Country

Changing visa in HK

Hi, I am a British citizen currently in China doing an English teaching course in Xiaoshan. I want to travel a bit inside China as soon as my course ends this week, but on my current visa I must leave China by the 29th. I tried checking if my current X2 type could be extended locally but the authorities said they could not change it over to a tourist L in China. My plan now is to go to Hong Kong this weekend and try my luck with getting a Tourist L there so I don't have to go all the way home. What sort of details will I need to apply for one in Hong Kong (any letter of invitation, travel itinerary, exit tickets etc.?)? Will I have any options regarding duration of stay (longer the better)?

I applied for my current X2 in Singapore, where I regulations limited the number of days and type I could apply for. And they wanted an exit flight ticket which I did not want to provide because I thought I could stay longer (the application officials in Sing said I could extend it there) and consequently had to write a letter stating the reason for not having a return ticket. Will I face similar restrictions in Hong Kong?

If you can provide an invitation letter, you can use that letter, your valid passport and an application form with a recent taken photo to apply.

If the invitation letter cannot be provided, you can replace the invitation letter with hotel bookings confirmations and round trip ticket to China mainland. You can choose the duration of stay, but the embassy has the final right to decide the time.

The situation you described may be also faced when you are in HK, but it is not assured. Anyway, good luck with you ~
