Queency, you really made me confused. Do you apply for Q1 for your son in China or in Philippines? If you apply from Chinese embassy in Phillippines, you should provide related documents. According to what I know, one of the documents is kinship certificate. In your situation, your son's birth certificate is enough. I didn't hear that DNA test is needed.

Queency, have you got your Q1 now?
Personally speaking, they need a DNA test is to prove that your son is you and your boyfriend's if your son apply for a Q1 to visit your boyfriend in China.

If you have a marriage certificate with your boyfriend, probably, th DNA test is not needed.

It is hard to tell whether it is reasonable or not. The policy is changed all the time. If they ask a DNA test, you need to do, otherwise, you cannot get an extension for your Q1.
