About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Not staying at hotel

I am planning to visit my son who works in Beijing during a 48 hour stopover en route to Vietnam. I will not be staying at a hotel as he has a flat with a spare room. How difficult is it to visit a police station to register the transit type? As we have such limited time with my son I do not want to waste too much time trying to find a police station and register.

It depends on where he lives. You'd better ask him to find the nearest police station before you arrive. Then you both can go there to register.
