Entering China and Leaving Within 2 hours?

Hi, I was wondering if I could enter Shanghai without a visa and take a different flight within the next two hours to the US via a different airline? Would that count as a transit? (2 different airline tickets, one to Shanghai and one from Shanghai to the US, it was cheaper to book like this than to go directly to the US)

Kaz, your situation suits 24 hours free transit policy. Yes, it's a transit and you needn't apply any type in advance.
