visiting sister working in china. do i need a L tourist visa or s2? only going for 2 weeks.

I'm american living in Germany with residence permit here. Iwant to visit my sister for about 2 weeks.
I'm confused about a Tourist L and the s2 type.
What do I need if I go visit her for 2 weeks. We may do some travelling, but not much.

I will be staying with her and will stay only in a hotel if we travel
