About:Exit Regulations of China

Gold tax?

This women I was talking too was leaving China and had a gold bar on her, the customs busted her she said for no documents and had to pay a fine of $2100.00 is this true ?, and after she got the documents 4 of them that cost her $3200.00 is this true ? and for the gold bar she say's she has to pay the chinese government 10 percent of the value of the gold bar before she can sell it is this true also ? , thanks Robert

Robert, passengers are free to take out less than 50 grams gold. If they carry more than 50 grams, they should declare it at the customs. If they don't have the permit issued by China People's Bank, they won't be allowed to take out. If you don't declare it at the customs, they will think that you are a smuggler. The worsest result is that you will be sentenced into prision.

I have the exact situation with a Filipina working in China. Now this whole thing is becoming suspicious. The exact story of a gold bar, which was intended to be a gift for me, and her transporting it in her luggage is the case here. She was stopped and arrested at the airport. Are we being scammed here?
