About:China Visa Application in USA

Is the hotel reservation a new requirement for an American tourist? I've gone to China before

When I've gone to China before the hotel reservation was not required.

Marilyn, you are not required to provide return air ticket and hotel booking if you have the invitation letter for applying the L type. However, these two things are definitely required if you don't have the invitation letter.
