Hi, I am a UK citizen working and residing in Qatar. Can you pls explain Visa for vacation to China

I would like to do a 2 week tour of China and am researching tour companies so do not have confirmed details yet. I could confirm my flights to China soon and probably the first few nights accommodation - before joining a tour group. My flights would be Doha>Beijing, Shanghai>Doha. I would be very grateful if you could explain the steps to obtaining a tourist L for this visit. Thanks.
