Day trips from Dalian

Greetings from Australia. My wife and l are spending a week in the city in October, and would like to know about possible day trips to other towns or cities by train. Can you reccommend anything. We don't mind early starts if a few hours journey is involved. We were thinking of train trip to Dandong for instance.
