Can I enter China on a visitors visa after residence permit was cancelled?

I used to work in China but my work permit and residence permits were cancelled. They were cancelled as the Chinese government were not happy about a gay man teaching in China and also I had recieved a teaching prohibition in UK (I was in China when the prohibition kicked in). I have no problem with this but I have a lot of friends in China that I would like to visit again.
