Duration of Q1 Visa for my newborn baby born in Canada

My wife (who is a Chinese national with a Canadian PR card) intends to bring our newborn baby (by the time he will be 6 months old) back to China to visit relatives for around 6 months. If we apply for a Q1 Visa at the Chinese consulate in Vancouver, will my baby get a 30 day, single entry visa for his first visit to China? and when he arrives in Guangzhou, does he need to get a Temporary Residence Permit to stay for 180 days in China?

Raymond, your baby can apply for Q1 type. However, there is no guarantee that he will get it successfully because the consular officer has the final say. Sometimes, the applicants are rejected with no reason even though the provide all the required documents. If he is lucky, he will be granted with Q1 type, a 30 days single entry one that should be changed into a temporary residence permit with 30 days when he arrives in China.

She needs to provide your baby's passport, application form, one recent taken photo, Registration Form of Temporary Residence For Visitors, kinship certificate and a relative's ID card and household register for applying residence permit.

If your wife wants to apply for the resident permit for your baby in Guangzhou, she needs to provide one of the relative's ID card and household register who lives in Guangzhou.
