About:Chinese Embassy in South Africa

flying to Thailand from London via China. is a transit visa required if I'm not leaving airport?

I have a South African passport and will be flying to Phuket, via China. I will only be in transit for 4 hours,

You needn't apply for a G type because you enjoy 24 hours free transit in China.
