About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Visiting Hangzhou on the 72 hour Visa

I am flying from New York to Shanghai. I then plan to fly to Hong Kong 2 days after. I am guessing that I need to inform the airline that i intend to apply for a 72 hour free transit

In between arrival and departure can I leave Shanghai to visit Hangzhou for a day?

If you have the connecting flight ticket with confirmed seats for HK, you can apply for the 72-hour free transit.
You cannot go to Hangzhou for a day during your staying in Shanghai.

My flight arrives from New York into Pu Dong international. Can I fly from the Hongqiao airport to Hong Kong after using the 72 hour transit visa?

You can leave from Hongqiao Airport to HK.
