How do get a china's before I leave the USA when I don't have definite plans, airfare & hotel, for trips to china while studying abroad Hong Kong?

If you cannot provide the hotel booking or flight tickets to China, you cannot get a Chinese tourist one. Personally speaking, you are suggested to go to HK first and then applying there once you have clear travel plan for China.
