The duration of stay is no longer than 180 days for Q2.
If you want to stay longer, you can try to extend your Q2 in China or apply a Q1 with duration longer than 180 days.

What I meant in the original question was NOT about how long I could stay for the visit, but how long the visa would be valid for. In other words, I only need to visit my parents once or twice a year, and each trip is usually under 10 days. Can I, for example, apply for a 5 or even a 10 year one that allows me to visit them once a year for under 10 day stay each trip?

Usually, the valid is around one year to two years and the longest valid is around 5 years. However, only few people can get 5-year valid, unless you can get approval from the Chinese embassy.
