transfer/stop over in hong kong

my nephew is flying from JHB south africa to da nang vietnam via hk [stop over] according to his ticket he needs to change planes. Q1 will his baggage be transfered from the 1 plane to the other or will he need to collect his baggage? Q2 is there a transfer section within the terminal for him to trf from the 1 flight to the other or will he need to collect baggage, depart the arrivals completely and then go thru departures and customs etc to board the flight that will take him on the final part of his journey. Thanks

Which airline will he use? As I know, if he has the onward boarding pass, he can just pick up the luggage at the destination. If not, he has to reclaim the luggage at HKIA. For the exact info, I suggest he ask the airline or HKIA.
