Do we need to apply an official visa or you will granted a 72 hours one if we travel on Cruise line

Does it require one if U.S. citizen travel on Celebrity cruise line to visit Tianjin and discharge in Shanghai to fly back to U.S.?

Yes, you need to apply for a transit G with your flights tickets to USA, passport and application form with recent taken photo.
