Can I rely on being granded a 144 hour transit visa when arriving in Tianjin

Hi. I hold a UK passport with 9.5yrs validity. We will arrive in Tianjin cruise port from South Korea, stay for just under 2 days travelling between Beijing and Tainjin (back to the ship) then fly from Beijing Capital airport to France. I believe that a 144 hour visa free transit applies but all information says that the Chinese immigration may not grant it.
Can you help please.
What would happen if we aren't granted the permit at immigration?

Your itinerary is eligible for the 144-hour visa free transit. If rejected, you will not be allowed to enter but the possibility is rather low. If worrying about it, you can also apply for a visa in advance.
