About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

I am US citizen with L Visa / Multiple entry valid thru 2-23-2015. I will visit my wife in China

then apply for Temporary Residence Permit for stay in China of 1 to 2 years before our return to USA. My wife is Chinese National and residing in China. We were married during my last visit in March 2014. Questions:

1- Will my Chinese L type work for entry to China under the circumstances without any further documentation?
2- Do I need letter of Invitation or proof of hotel reservation? i already have the Visa.
2- Do I need to re-apply for Q-1 since this is a family visit or will my L Visa suffice?
Thank You.

Jeff, you already have a multiple-entry L type that is valid until Feb. 23, 2015. So you can enter China easily and you needn't prepare any other documents. Of course, you needn't provide invitation letter or hotel reservation because you already have a valid L type.

I have no idea how long you duration of each stay is. You should exit China and re-enter before your duration of each stay ends. Just go to HK or Macau and re-enter China. It's easy. Personally, I think you can use this multiple L type. Before it expires, then you can go back to the states to apply for the Q1 type. And of course you can apply for the Q1 type now. Once you have it, your L type is void.

Thank you for your reply (My limit of stay is 60 days). I guess the one question that I am unclear on is can I enter on an L type and apply for temporary residence permit (Without having a Q1 or Q2)?
