About:How to Buy Tickets

purchase ticket at ticket office in Chongqing

We are leaving Canada in mid-August and will arrive Chongqing in mid-September and will stay there for 3 days, then will go to Chengdu by train on day 4th. Instead of buying tickets from the railway station, can we choose to buy the tickets from one of those designated Ticket Offices located within Chongqing city? If possible, we will go straight to those designated Ticket Offices, pay them cash and show them our passports, by doing so, will the Ticket Office give us the paper ticket at that point of time? Your answer will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

no, you can not purchase the ticket at the ticket office in the city. You have to buy at the railway station.

Thanks, David. I got those Ticket Offices locations and info from the China Railway official website. If those Ticket Offices in Chongqing city do not sell train tickets, then what they are for??

You are welcome, Flo. The ticket offices do sell tickets, but only for Chinese citizens who have the second generation ID card. The Chinese railway company just adopted a new identity verification policy that passengers have to have their identity checked before purchasing or picking up tickets. Chinese people can do the verification at either railway station or ticket offices with their 2nd generation ID card, but foreigners can only do that in railway stations with their original passport. so you can only buy or collect tickets at a railway station.

as i know, the service fee of this website is $5 - $8 per ticket. You can have you ticket delivered to your hotel in China (an extra delivery fee of $5 is charged) or you can collect the ticket by yourself by showing your passport at the railway station.
