i want to visit shaolin temple and longmen caves in october... i have a flight to this city.... can anyone suggest whether its best to stay in luoyang or stay in dengfeng or shaolin itself? and where its best to get a bus/train back to beijing? also... ive seen that you can get a bus direct from the airport to luoyang? is this correct? i had planned to get a bus or taxi to the train station and then a train to luoyang, but if there is a bus direct from the airport it would be easier.. i dont want to stay in th city and only have a few days so dont want to waste a day there.. my plane arrives 2pm.. can anyone suggest the best place to stay to visit shaolin and longmen caves.. thanks... my email - kevintenutahotmail.com

As for your case, it is best to stay in Luoyang. And yes, there are direct buses from the airport to Luoyang and they are scheduled from 10:00 to 00:30 every day. The bus fare is 70RMB per person.

After getting to Luoyang, check in a hotel. You can travel from that hotel to Luoyang Train Station to take bus no. 81 to Longmen Caves. And I remember there are direct buses from the caves to Shaolin Temple, but not sure whether they are still available now. Good luck and have a good trip!

People usually buy bus tickets in the bus station, so there is little possibility that all tickets are sold out on the same day! However, it is best to book train tickets in advance, because most people would buy that in advance and it is the most popular transport in China.
