Z Visa Application - Legalization of Marriage and Children Birth Certificates

I am in the process of moving from the UK to China on a company assignment. I have been told that i will require a Z. In order to get this I have been told that my marriage certificate and the birth certicifactes of my children have to be legalized in the country where they were issued.

I was married in the Republic of South Africa. Does that mean I have to present the marriage certificate in South Africa?

Birth certificates of my children, born in the UK, I believe I can get legalized in the UK. Is this correct?
In addition, what is the procedure in the UK...am I simply to go to the Chinese Consulate in London with the original documents and copies for legalization? Please let me know the procedure.

Many thanks

Hi, it is correct. You need to get your marriage certificate legalized in South Africa if it was issued there. For your child's birth certificate, you can do it at Chinese embassy in London.
Procedure: If it was not issued by a British government authority, you need to send them to a local international notary public for notarisation. Then send them, notarised by notaries, to the Legalization office of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) or an authorised department by FCO for legalizations. But if the documents were issued by a British government department, you may send them for legalizations to FCO or an authorised department by FCO. After completing the initial stage of notarisation and legalization, you can submit them to the Chinese embassy.
