About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does 72 hour visa work in this situation?

I am flying from Mongolia to Beijing and then from Beijing to Vietnam 48 hours later. I would like to leave the airport and visit the city during that time. However the Flight to Vietnam has 1 hour transfer in Shanghai although it is a connecting flight. Would that stop me from being able to use the 72 hour transit in Beijing? Thanks in advance.

So your flying route is Mongolia-Beijing-Shanghai-Vietnam, right? If so, you can't enjoy 72 hours free transit in Beijing.

Well the Shanghai part is actually a connected flight to Vietnam with the same airline which happens to have about 1 hour transit in China. I won't be leaving the airport in Shanghai. Does that allow me to get the 72 hour free transit?

Sorry, I am afraid you have to apply for a transit G type one in advance from Chinese embassy.
