Weather in end of July and how long to stay at Mt. Huashan

Hi there,

My friend & I are planning for a 5 days visit to Xian, including a trip to Mt. Huashan. Need your help on the following info:

1) How's the weather in end July? is it going to be very hot? is it going to be raining a lot?

2) We'll land on Xian's airport around midnight, and plan to stay in the area around city-wall (old city area?). At this late, I guess we need to take taxi. Read on your website that some taxi drivers are tricky. In this case which taxi would you recommend? The green one or the black luxury one? If the reputation of black luxury one is good, think we'll prefer to take the black one. But if it does not matter, then we'll go for the green one.

3) Also, we'd like to visit Mt. Huashan, and would like to try the plank walk. Would a day trip visit enough?

Many thanks,

1. It will be hot and a little bit wet during that time, with the average temperature of 28-30℃. However, it will be vey cold on the top of the mountain due to the high altitude, where you even need wear down jacket. There may be shower then, but it won't last long!
2. I am a native girl, but I've never seen black taxi in my city. They are all green ones. Usually, the driver don't charge by meter and the flat rate is CNY120-130, but when I went back to the city at 01:30 last time, he charged me CNY150. Just remember not to pay more than CNY150!
3. A whole day trip with experiencing the Plank Walk on the mountain shall be enough and people usually climb at night and view the scenery, experience such extreme items and go down on the next day!

3. I've just been to Huashan and that's my experience if you want to do the mountain in one day. I took the bus(2h)from Xian train station at 9.30ish(there is 游1 at 7.30am but if you miss it -like me- there are other buses for about 35 rmb. I was told from the tourist information office that after7.30 weren't anymore buses but its a lie). Or you can takr the fast train 高铁 in Xian north railway station, its about 55rmb and it takes 30 min. I arrived near Huashan bus station (i had to take a cab from where the bus dropped me to th bus station where you can get another bus to the cable car in both peaks). I took the cable car at the west peak, in my opimion is better to start at west if you want to avoid thousands of stairs up in the nortb peak. So i started to walk from west peak, then south peak, east peak, central peak and i ended in the noeth peak. It took about 4 hours to do the all peaks. The west cable car for student is 90 rmb and the north is 72 rmb. The entrance is 100 rmb also for student, i guess th whole ticket is around 150 rmb. Plus you have to add the bus that brings you to the cable car (from the bus station near the mountain to the west cable car is 40 rmb and to the northcable car is 20). The last bus i heard is about 7 pm but after that there are trains , so i won't be worried about th time. Generally speaking it was a bit overpriced and full of people but th mountain is still beautiful. Note that chinese mountains are all full of stairs, so prepare youself for that. Bring water and food if you dont to buy up there because its so expensive.

You mentioned student price. Is it apply only for those who study in China? If I'm still a student in my country, can I show something to get the discount price? Thank you
