About:China Family Reunion Visa

Is getting a Z-Visa the only option for the spouse of a Chinese national wishing to work in China?

I am British and my wife of 2 years is Chinese. I have been told by an acquaintance that it is possible to get some kind of spouse/family Q, which allows the husband to work and has a longer term than the Z. From what I have read here, it seems I may have been misinformed. What are my options?

Yes, you need to apply for Z type if you plan to work in China. This is the only type allowed and entitled to work.

You misunderstood, The Q type will not allow you to work in a Chinese company, you risk fines & blacklisted passport. The Q type will give you more years because you don't have or need a FEB expert book ( Labor Department.) If you a FEB Expert book(It's blue) it will be stamped for a period of time, mostly for 1 year because it's based off your contract with the company and then the PSB can only give you a 1 year working resident permit because the contract was only for one year.

Now you can get more years on a Q type with:

1. Your wife having Y60,000 to Y300,000 RMB in her account, must bring bank statements, this will prove she can support you because you are not allowed to work, so she is your supporter.

2. Buying or having a house will give you a year or longer Q type, and you don't require the money if your wife has a job and a house, not renting, a house under mortgage or a paid off house will only work.

3. Longer marriage, stayed in China for a long time and having a baby will give you more years on a Q type, maybe 2 years, all cities are different.

4. MUST HAVES: Must get a health and body check for a Q1, but if not body check, you can only stay in China for 6 months at a time. Your wife's Hukou must be registered in the city that you guys are living in. You must register you and your wife's name and living address at the local PSB before going to the main PSB office for the Q type.. You should bring a background security check if you plan to work someday. You'll need it if you get a Z type in HK someday.
