Could you please tell me the cost for Australian & British passport holders?  Do I need a letter from a Chinese company for a business trip?  Also if I deliver my application to the office in Brisbane, how long will it be before it is ready?

Yes, invitation letter from China is required if you visit for business purpose. Fee (single entry under 4 working day regular processing) is AUD 98.5 for Australian passport holders, and AUD 88.5 for British passport holder.
