buying train ticket verification in shanghai

Question

I intend to buy train tickets from the Longyang Road train ticket office. I'm also buying for my friend, a China citizen. Is it possible for me just to give the ticket office his Chinese name and IC number for verification instead of showing them physical IC card?

You need to have a ID card for buying tickets for your Chinese friend. At least, you need to have a copy of his ID card or his passport to buy the ticket.
