how far in advance can a person purchase train tickets in china? (2 years ago was 5 days?)

Was also wondering if it is possible to purchase a high speed rail ticket leaving Chengdu while in Guangzhou from the Guanzhou railway station....

18 day in advance at railway stations, and 20 days prior to departure online.
however, as far as i know, there is no high-speed train from Guangzhou to Chengdu.
