Hi I am going to China fro school and am getting  a X visa, the school is helping with this.

You need to apply for x type and the residence permit after entry (assuming a X2 type). Your husband who is visiting you should apply for L type in the begining. Once you get your residence permit, he is able to apply for a family visit S type.
