Transit visa - cost?

Hello,

I am a Canadian citizen working in Tokyo. I will fly from Tokyo to New York this July but want to stop for 2-3 days in Beijing first - so Tokyo - Beijing, 2/3 day stop, Beijing - New York. Is this visa program still available? Is there a cost?
