We are travelling from England to New Zealand stopping in Shanghai for 76 hrs do we need visas?

As we land at 9.10 ( virgin airlines) and take off at 2pm ( on air new zealand plane) 3 days later approx 76 hrs do we need a visa.? I have phoned the airline I booked withand he did not seem to know. As we will not be outside the secure area of the airport more than 72 hrs we seem to be falling into a "nobody knows issue". I really don't want to pay alot of money for visas if we dont really need them.
Any advice welcome.

My friend was in the same case as you are some time ago. He finally succeeded staying in SH for 75h without a visa, because they said he was qualified for the 72h free visa policy. I am not sure whether the situation varies from airlines. Then I suggest you dial 086-021-31366100 to consult the Immigration Inspection Station to confirm.
