About:China Student Visa

How soon am I allowed to enter China ?

To whom it may concern,

I will be commencing my studies at a chinese uni at the beginning of September. However, I want to arrive in China in early July to familiarize with the culture, find a decent flat, etc. How soon would one be able to enter China after receiving the visa ? Does it come into effect immediately ? Or is there a restriction such as e.g 2 weeks prior to the official start of the programm.

Any help/information is appreciated.

Hi, visa is issued with 3 month validity, but it is only good for a stay of 30 days. That is to say, you have to register with the university and apply for student residence permit within 30 days after arrival. Otherwise, you will overstay there. If you enter China earlier in July when the university is not open during summer vacation, I am afraid it is impossible for you to get residence permit. However, if you hold X2 type, it is ok because it is unnecessary to apply for residence permit. But you still need to count the duration of stay carefully, because it starts from the next day of entry.
