About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hi, I'm Australian travelling from Bangkok to Shanghai then to Vientiane Laos.

Will I be permitted to travel to Shanghai on a transit Visa? I will be there for three days.

I am afraid not, because these two countries are in the same region. The itinerary will be considered as a single return trip by the immigration officers. So you are advised to apply for a Chinese visa in advance.
