What is a Khan and why is it so important in the dynastic history of China?

Well, Khan actually refers to the chief of a tribe. Genghis Khan (Kublai Khan), the leader of Mongolia, established the Yuan to play an important role in Chinese history.

Khan means king or ruler in mongolian. Yuan dynasty was ruled by mongolians in the territory of china now. That is why it is related to chinese history. But, yuan dynasty was mongolian.
