Can I travel from Hong Kong to Chengdu on a visa free 72 hours?

I am going to Hong Kong on a direct flight from the UK. Whilst staying in Hong Kong would love to see the pandas at Chengdu. Would I need visa for China or could I use the free 72 hours to do this

I'm afraid your case is not entitled to the 72h free-visa policy. If you wanna see the pandas in Chengdu, a visa shall be needed and you need to apply for it in advance.
