Need to register visa in China after arrival?

Hi, I am in China on a work/residency permit and am expecting a number of friends to come and visit during the year. Do they need to register at the local police station after arrival in China? Is there a difference in the registration rules if they travel on a tourism or visitor type? I really appreciate your help to clarify if registration is needed or not. thank you in advance, Nina

Hi, they just need to register at local police station within 24 hours after entry. But if they stay in hotels, hotels will do registration with the local police station.
