I understand that line 2 metro goes to nanjing west road,is it correct that one must take exit nr 8 to get to the Pacific hotel.Please advise.Sergio.

Partially right. You can take the line 2 to People's Square Station and get out of the station from Exit 8. Then you can see your hotel easily.
