About:Shanghai Metro

Will arrive pudong airport at midnight. Is taxi my only choice then to go to city proper? How much.

No, besides taxi, the Night Shuttle Bus will also be in operation at that time. It can take you to the city proper and then you can transfer to a taxi to your destination! Based on you destintion, the shuttle bus ticket fare ranges from 16RMB to 30RMB!
