About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Will the 72 hour visa free apply if I travel from Hongkong to Beijing to Manila?

I hold a U.S. passport and plans to travel to Philippines then Hongkong to Beijing then back to Manila for return flight
to U.S. Will I be allowed to use 72 hr free transit in Beijing?
