travel high speed train from shanghai to beijing on a saturday

Question

My wife and I would like to travel the high speed train from Shanghai to Beijing on 26th April which is a Saturday. Could we book seats so we sit side-by-side? And could we get seats easily for travel on a Saturday? We plan to arrive Shanghai Pudong Airport on 19th April.

Well, you may not get the seats side by side because the ticket selling system doesn't support seats selection. When you find your seats are not together, you may ask someone to change a seat. I have done this before. I was lucky because I met a friendly guy who agreed without hesitation when I told him I wanted to change my seat for his. I think you can buy the tickets successfully when you arrive in Shanghai.
