How many tubes of acrylic (water based) artists colours can i take in my carry-on luggage?

I am travelling with a group of artists from Canada, and don't want to check any luggage. I want to take some small tubes of water-based paint with me. Do you foresee any problems? Any advice?

Perry, I am afraid that you can't bring them in your carry-on luggage. It's forbidden to bring liquid products on board. Your painting material is water based. However, it's allowed to bring certain amount of liquid products in the checked luggage.

although they are water based, they are the consistency of toothpaste. Does that make a difference, Lucy?

Perry, if it is semi-solid, then I think you can put them in your checked luggage and bring them into PRC. However, I do suggest you contact the airline you take or the airport you arrive at. They can give accurate answer than me.
