About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I am in shanghai from 20th - 27th of April flying from the UK. I have a visa for my entry.

I then need to travel to Burma for business trip from shanghai. I will also have visa for Burma but need to return to shanghai to get my connection flight back to uk. I do not have one to re-enter china but only plan to stay overnight in hotel before catching flight back to UK following day? Can I use the 72 hr free for this purpose? Many thanks
