Work Visa Z

I have been a offered a job by a company in Beijing China. Now they have send me an invitation letter, but for applying for the work permit, the company is saying that it will take more time and I have to come over there and submit my documents and physical report to get the work permit. I have been out of work for a few months and I am desperate to get this job.

My questions are
1. can I apply for a Z from my country just with the invitation letter, police clearance certificate and physical examination report.
2. what are the other options for me to go to china and work with the company?
