Whats best way to get from Pudong Airport to the shanghai marriott city center?

It is suggested to take the local subway line 2 to reach People's Square Station. Get out of the station from Exit 19 and then walk along the Xizang Middle Road to your hotel easily.

Is the subway located at the airport or do you have to take the Maglev to the subway station?

There is a subway station at the airport indeed and its name is Pudong Airport Metro Station! upon landing, follow the guiding signs and you can easily walk there!

It costs 7 yuan per person for single adult ticket from airport to city centre. Ticket machines at airport do not take credit / debit cards or notes bigger than 50 yuan.

No 2 line although shown as continuous - you have to get out at Guanglan Road (8th stop) and cross island platform to catch another No. 2 to the city (People's Square another 10 stops) / Hongqiao Airport.
