should my wife apply for new visa

My wife is having valid Chinese resident permit on her old passport, now she got new passport with new surname (because of marriage). Does she need to apply new one or she can travel to china with old passport and marriage certificate which explain her name change.

I think she must acquire a letter from your authorties, which states why her name has changed. If she didn't have this, she might have trouble when she travels in PRC even she has old and new passports together with the marriage certificate. It's complicated.
