About:China Visa Renewal and Extension

I'm a student currently in Shanghai and my X expires on the 1st of July.

However, I need to stay in China for another week after that. Other than the school helping with an extension, could I fly to hong kong just before my X expires and get a tourist (L) and then fly back? I have someone to invite me to stay and I have the return flight if they need it for the tourist application.

Hi, an X entension from local PSB is better. And it is easier if the school helps with the application, also you do not have to exit to Hong Kong. It is possible for you to apply for a tourist L in HK but no one here can ensure you with the issuance before there are rumors that the office in HK does not accept applications from Non-HK residents anymore.

Thanks so much! The situation with my school is a bit complicated, but I just wanted to see if it's possible to get an L after a X type, since the X type is actually residence permit. I assume it just becomes void when you get a new one.

Yes, but you should apply for the L at least for seven days in advance before your X type get expired. I think you should visit local entery and exit management department for details.
