About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

How do I obtain a transit visa in Shanghai Pudong Airport?

I am flying from Hong Kong to Shanghai, then spending only about 6 hours at the airport before leaving for Paris. Do I need one and do I have to obtain it in advance, or I can just get it upon arrival in Shanghai?

Thank you!

Hi, nothing is required if you will remain inside of the airport transit area during stopover. In case you need to go out of the airport, you can apply for a stay permit directly upon arrival.

I just did this. On arrival, if you wish to leave airport, show your ticket to officers. If you are not leaving airport I think you do not need to do anything. Have a printed ticket of your outbound flight on you along with your boarding pass from incoming flight. It is all very simple.
