what is the best way to go from beijing to kashgar by rail for family

if family wants to visit kashgar from beijing what is the best and shortest route

i think you need to take flight to Urumqi first and then connect rail or flight to Kashgar. The rail between Urumqi and Kashgar takes about 25 hours, it is really a long journey, hope you enjoy it,
